CAMMAC invites Singers and Instrumentalists to read

The Bach: B minor Mass

Sunday, March 22, 2009 at 2 p.m., singers and instrumentalists under the direction of Stephanie Martin will read the Bach: B minor Mass. The reading will take place at Christ Church Deer Park, 1570 Yonge Street, (2 blocks north of St. Clair Avenue) in Elliott Hall (enter from Heath Street). Please arrive 15 minutes early to set up.

Albert Basso summarizes the Mass in B minor as "the consecration of a whole life: started in 1733 for "diplomatic reasons" it was finished in the very last years of Bach's life, when he had already gone blined. This monumental work is a synthesis of every stylistic and technical contribution that the Cantor of Leipzig made to music.

Recently appointed Music Director of the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene in Toronto, Stephanie Mart carries on the tradition of a cappella choral singing established by Healey Willan in the 1920's.

Instrumentalists are asked to register in advance at k_mackenzie@sympatico.ca so that sufficient parts will be available.

Fee: Students are free, non-members $10. For further information call 416-421-0779 or Toronto@cammac.ca.
