New Production of Roberto Devereux by Donizetti opens January 30

All Hail the Queen - Minnesota Opera
Minnesota Opera is proud to announce the first installment in Gaetano Donizetti's trilogy of operas based on the Tudor queens, Roberto Devereux, Mary Stuart and in 2011-2012 with Anne Boleyn. Leading a boutique cast of Bel Canto experts is Minnesota Opera favorite soprano Brenda Harris (Orazi e Curiazi) as Queen Elizabeth I opposite Portuguese tenor Bruno Ribeiro, who makes his Minnesota Opera debut as her treacherous lover, Roberto Devereux, Earl of Essex. Kevin Newbury (The Barber of Seville) returns to direct this superb cast with Bel Canto specialist Francesco Maria Colombo (Maria Padilla, Orazi e Curiazi) conducting the Minnesota Opera Orchestra. Set Designer Neil Patel Jessica Jahn have joined forces to create a beautiful, fresh period-inspired production to showcase the most important element of the Bel Canto style, the voice.

We are thrilled to hail the return of Bel Canto master soprano Brenda Harris, "a brilliant Elizabeth whose stunning bel canto instrument effortlessly negotiated Act One’s tricky vocal acrobatics. From tender interludes to thundering royal ragings, she was every inch a queen in command of her kingdom and this performance." - The Washington Times
