Get Your Backstage Pass to The Metropolitan Opera’Äôs

The Audition at Cineplex Entertainment Theatres

Advance tickets now available

TORONTO, ON, May 6, 2009 (CGX.UN) ’Äì Cineplex Entertainment is pleased to present The Metropolitan Opera’Äôs The Audition, a feature length documentary that provides a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to make it in one of the most difficult professions in the performing arts. The Audition will be shown in High Definition (HD) and digital surround sound on Saturday, June 6th at 1 pm EST/12 pm CST/11 am MST/10 am PST and Monday, June 15th at 7 pm local time at select Cineplex Entertainment theatres across the country.

’ÄúWe are excited to offer our guests The Audition, an addition to the acclaimed MET Opera: Live in HD series that guests have enjoyed at our theatres across the country for the past three years,’Äù said Pat Marshall, Vice President, Communications and Investor Relations, Cineplex Entertainment. ’ÄúThe Audition offers an exclusive backstage pass into the intense pressures the competitors face as they try to launch an opera career with the Met. Our regular Met opera guests will love the drama and excitement in this production.’Äù

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Susan Froemke, The Audition looks at the intense pressures young opera singers face as they struggle to succeed in one of the most difficult professions in the performing arts. The feature-length documentary takes you behind the scenes at the Metropolitan Opera’Äôs National Council Auditions, where each year thousands of hopefuls compete for a cash prize, the chance to sing on the Met stage and the opportunity to launch a major operatic career. The film covers the dramatic week leading up to the finals of the 2007 auditions, focusing on three very different tenor contestants: Michael Fabiano, a fiery 22-year-old grappling with his inner demons; Alek Shrader, a 25-year-old with movie star looks who attempts to sing nine high Cs in the fiendishly difficult aria that made Pavarotti a star and Ryan Smith, who at age 30, and with little formal training, is pursuing his dream of an operatic career. The Audition also includes a 20 minute panel discussion taped recently at The Met with Renˆ©e Fleming on the panel.

Advance tickets are now available online at www.cineplex.com/events as well as at participating theatre box offices. Admission for seniors and children ages 3 ’Äì 12 is $12.95 + tax and general admission is $14.95 + tax.

Stratford Shakespeare Festival's Caesar and Cleopatra

Hits the Big Screen in High-Definition

Exclusively via Cineplex Entertainment Theatres

First ever live Canadian theatrical production

to be shown on Cineplex Entertainment screens

TORONTO, ON, January 13, 2009 (CGX.UN) ’Äì Cineplex Entertainment is pleased to announce the world film premiere of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival's production of Bernard Shaw's Caesar and Cleopatra will be shown one time only on Saturday, January 31, at 1p.m., in High Definition (HD) and digital surround sound exclusively at more than 80 select Cineplex Entertainment theatres across the country.

"We are excited to work with the Stratford Festival, Barry Avrich and CTV to bring this classic performance of Caesar and Cleopatra exclusively to our guests in communities large and small across the country," said Pat Marshall, Vice President, Communications and Investor Relations, Cineplex Entertainment. "From the Metropolitan Opera to The National Ballet of Canada and now the Stratford Festival, Cineplex Entertainment continues to provide our guests with the best out-of-home entertainment available."

"The Cineplex release gives audiences across Canada an opportunity to see Christopher Plummer ’Äì a great Canadian actor and international treasure ’Äì in a role that he was born to play, along with the brilliant newcomer Nikki James as the legendary teenage queen," said Des McAnuff, Artistic Director of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and director of the Festival's production of Caesar and Cleopatra. "Caesar and Cleopatra is the story of the occupation of one nation by another ’Äì and while it is set more than 2,000 years ago, it is surprisingly contemporary in its subject and its sharp sense of humour. I hope it will serve as a banner production to let Canadians across the country witness the great things that are happening in Stratford."

Starring the internationally renowned Christopher Plummer as Caesar and Nikki M. James as Cleopatra, the play sparkles with Shaw's legendary wit. Political drama turns to comedy when veteran strategist Julius Caesar becomes mentor to the enchanting teenage queen of Roman-occupied Egypt. Their first encounter under a desert moon will lead to a shift in the course of history, as Cleopatra gradually overcomes her timidity to become a determined player in the game of power politics.

Executive Producers Christopher Plummer, Barry Avrich and Michael Levine worked in partnership with Bravo! to capture the stage performances of the Festival's production of Caesar and Cleopatra over three days in front of live audiences in HD and digital surround sound.

"The historic opportunity to preserve the legendary live performances in this theatrical production on film is unprecedented and an extraordinary gift for both film and theatre lovers," said Mr. Avrich, who is also Producer of the film.

Caesar and Cleopatra is presented by Bravo! and is produced by Melbar Entertainment Group. Isme Bennie is the Production Executive for Bravo! Bravo! is a division of CTV Limited.
