Icewine Plus Jazz Equals A Unique Niagara Experience

Throughout January Niagara-on-the-Lake celebrates Icewine with the sounds of jazz

NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 17, 2009) - On New Year's Day Niagara-on-the-Lake will launch a month-long Icewine and Jazz Celebration featuring numerous events in local restaurants and retailers, in the town's Heritage District and in the Wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Icewine and jazz are a natural pairing because Niagara-on-the-Lake will soon be home to the future Canadian Jazz Hall of Fame, a national centre of recognition for the great jazz musicians of Canada.

In addition to daily events at the Wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake, three special weekends are planned for the town's Heritage District featuring Icewine culinary events, tasting seminars and an Icewine cocktail competition. On Sunday January 17, the Canadian Jazz Quartet will entertain jazz lovers at the Canadian Jazz Hall of Fame Brunch (which will also feature Icewine, of course).

Full details about the featured weekends and a complete listing of all wineries and restaurants Icewine and Jazz Celebration events are available at: www.wineriesofniagaraonthelake.com/icejazzjanuary.

"This is the only region in the world that produces and celebrates Icewine annually," said Sherri Lockwood, chair of the Wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake. "And since our Canadian Jazz artists -- some of the finest in the world -- will be celebrated here for all time at the new Jazz Hall of Fame, it's natural that we acknowledge their special place in Canadian culture together."

Special weekend packages -- including accommodations and admission to selected events -- are available, and each of the Wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake has special tour and tasting experiences scheduled during the month.

"Canadian wines are taking root with wine-lovers all over the world," added Ms. Lockwood, "but Icewine has already become a Canadian icon worldwide."
