Music in Monk Time featuring Jane Fair and Jane Bunnett

’ÄúMUSIC IN MONK TIME’Äù

FEATURING JANE FAIR AND JANE BUNNETT

December 14, 2008 3:00 pm. at the Art of Jazz Salon

TORONTO ’Äì The Art of Jazz is pleased to announce that, on Sunday December 14, 2008 at 3:00 p.m., MUSIC IN MONK TIME, a band devoted to the compositions of Thelonious Monk is performing for the first time in 20 years. Formed by Jane Fair and Jane Bunnett in 1988, this band performed at all the major venues across Ontario. With ’Äúwall to wall crowds at their final performance at the Bermuda Onion’Äù, Geoff Chapman stated ’ÄúMonk Time, a good time for a long time’Äù (Toronto Star, December 1990).

Jane Fair is heard too infrequently in Toronto. Her recent release ’ÄúChances Are’Äù on Cellar Live, has received stunning reviews and made two of CODA Magazine's critic's top ten lists for 2007. Jane Fair was Jane Bunnett’Äôs first teacher and is considered to be a groundbreaking female jazz artist in Canada. Their collaboration and contrasting styles are perfect for the music of Thelonius Monk. They will be joined on stage by Kieran Overs, Norman Marshall Villeneuve, Mark Kieswetter, Larry Cramer and Bonnie Lester.

This concert is the pre-launch of an exciting new Art of Jazz Salon series that will begin in 2009\ and will feature both local and international jazz artists performing in this intimate, acoustic setting. For further information about Art of Jazz concerts, clinics, and workshops, go to www.artofjazz.org.

Tickets prices are $15 and seating is very limited. Performance begins at 2:00 pm. Tickets go on sale December 1 at the Art of Jazz Studio 416 840-7663 or by email jazz@artofjazz.org. The Art of Jazz Salon is located at The Distillery Historic District, 55 Mill Street, Building 74, Studio 202.
