Flash version here.

La Scena Musicale closes its 2009-10 season with this July-August issue featuring an in-depth profile of Canadian soprano Adrianne Pieczonka. Hot off the competition season, we also cover the Prix d’Europe, the Canadian Music Competition and the Montreal International Music Competition. Furthermore, we pay homage to beloved composer Gustav Mahler on his 150th anniversary with an article by renowned British music journalist Norman Lebrecht. And for those lazy summer days, plan to curl up with a book from our Annual Reading Guide. We introduce non-fiction and fiction gems that will be sure to intrigue the music-lover.

Of course, music lovers are also arts lovers! In this month’s La SCENA Express section, we feature the world’s first international circus festival. The Complètement Cirque festival will go off with a bang this July in Montreal. Gallery goers will also be glad to find a profile on Paul-Émile Borduas, whose work will be on exhibition at the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art until October 2010.

Don’t forget: each month our subscribers receive a free Discovery CD (in partnership with XXI Records). This month we have a rare treat: performances of celebrated opera arias by great Canadian coloratura soprano Pierrette Alarie. And of course, jazz and world music, reviews, music news items and other articles on music and the arts are also found in this jam-packed issue.

Look for our second annual La SCENA Arts Directory, hitting the stands this August. This directory has quickly become an invaluable resource in Quebec for musicians, artists, students and their parents, and the general consumer.

It’s been a financially challenging yet creatively rewarding year for all of us here at La Scena Musicale. We hope you’ve enjoyed catching glimpses of such venerable artists as Marc Hervieux, Emmanuel Pahud, Gilles Tremblay and Kerri-Lynn Wilson, as well as other features such as our Aria of the Month. Perhaps you’ve used our insightful CD reviews to help you purchase recordings, or checked out our concert and festival previews and calendar to plan your musical summer. Now is the time to show your appreciation for your La Scena. Your contribution to our endowment fund campaign will help us enormously. The campaign only runs for a few more months so please give now to ensure a new and fruitful 15th season for La Scena.

The La Scena team thanks you for your support. Have a relaxing summer full of concerts, exhibitions and reading!
