The year 2005 can be remembered for Kent Nagano's first concerts as director designate at the Montreal Symphony, the MSO Strike, the opening of the Schulich Building at McGill and the emergence of Internet Music, iPods and the DVD Video. In Canada, 2006 began with the federal election where the arts were an afterthought. With the new minority Conservative government, questions abound regarding the security of the announced doubling of the Canada Council budget over 3 years to $301 million and the future of the CBC.

La Scena Musicale will again be there to educate, inform, inspire, and discuss the relevant topics for music lovers and musicians. In this issue, we present a focus on primary and secondary education and profile a top music teacher. Cover artist Magdalena Kozena discusses her beginning and her thoughts on education. The theme of love is covered by our look at music and weddings. Discover great music-making through our concert listings and CD reviews.

Make 2006 a happy musical year.
