The High Park Choirs of Toronto Performs Holiday Favourites

TORONTO, Dec. 2 /CNW/ - Join the High Park Choirs and artistic director Zimfira Poloz as they celebrate the season with a concert of secular and sacred music on December 12th at 7:00 pm at St. Anne's Anglican Church (270 Gladstone Avenue). The centrepiece of the concert is a performance of Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols by the Senior and Chamber Choirs. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students/senior, and are available at the door or at sosweet.eventbrite.com.

This concert is the first since the High Park Choirs' very successful German tour in July. The choir was the only non-German ensemble invited to perform as part of the 1125th birthday celebrations of the town of Bodersweier. The choir also performed in the nearby towns of Kehl and Strasbourg, in France. Many audience members followed the choir from the concert in Bodersweier to the one in Kehl.

About Zimfira Poloz

Zimfira Poloz recently led the Hamilton Children's Chorus to a first place finish at the 2009 World Choral Championship in Laval, Quebec, one year after that choir won the top prize in the CBC amateur choir competition. Since she assumed the directorship of the High Park Choirs in 2004, the choir has earned plaudits nationally and internationally. "(They) sing with an extraordinarily beautiful tone quality and an exciting and artistically informed musicianship that resonates beyond their years," says Doreen Rao, Director of Choral Programs at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Music, where the choir is Children's Choir-in-Residence.

About High Park Choirs

The High Park Choirs combine a first-class musical experience with the intimacy of a small ensemble, where every child is known by name. Founded in 1986 as a girls' choir, the High Park Choirs now comprises one-hundred-and-twenty boys and girls in five divisions, with ages ranging from six to eighteen.

The High Park Choirs draw singers from 63 schools across the GTA and interested children are encouraged to attend our open rehearsal and auditions in January. Rehearsals are held in Toronto's west end at Runnymede United Church.
