Volunteers needed for the 2009-10 Cleveland Orchestra concert and event season at Severance Hall

Severance Hall seeks volunteers to serve as ushers, greeters, ticket takers, tour guides, and store volunteers

CLEVELAND, July 15, 2009 ’Äì Severance Hall, home of The Cleveland Orchestra, is seeking volunteer ushers, greeters, ticket takers, tour guides, and store volunteers for the 2009-10 season. The season includes evening subscription, matinee, education, family, and holiday concerts by The Cleveland Orchestra; performances by the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra, the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony, and the Cleveland Women’Äôs Orchestra; and many other musical and non-musical events.

Tour guides conduct public and private tours and offer historical and architectural detail about Severance Hall. Store volunteers offer sales assistance in the Cleveland Orchestra Store during weekdays and weekends at concert times.

Severance Hall also seeks middle- and high-school students to join the Junior Volunteer Corps. Students assist at Family Concerts, Musical Rainbow performances, Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra concerts, Holiday concerts, and other special events (mostly daytime performances during the weekend). An orientation and training program prepares students for service as ushers, ticket takers, and Cleveland Orchestra Store volunteers. Adult ushers also serve as mentors.

Severance Hall volunteers are asked to commit for the entire season from September through June, and are required to attend a two-hour training and orientation session in September, at the beginning of the season. Training session dates are September 22 and 24 at 6:00 p.m. and September 24 at 9:00 a.m.

Open interviews for new volunteers will be held at Severance Hall on Friday, August 28, from 5 - 7 p.m. and Saturday, August 29, from 10 a.m. ’Äì 2 p.m. Stop in any time during these hours to fill out an application, and learn about the program and speak with Front of House Staff members.

While providing excellent customer service, Severance Hall volunteers have the opportunity to hear great music in a beautiful venue, enjoy the company of other music-loving volunteers, and contribute their talents and time to a premier arts organization.

Those interested in more information about volunteering at Severance Hall may call the House Manager’Äôs Office at Severance Hall at (216) 231-7425.
